Announcement: Proposal for a Special Issue of the Southeastern
Naturalist/Northeastern Naturalist focusing on the woodland impacts of
the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and resulting broader effects on the forest
ecosystems of eastern North America.
The HWA infestation is expanding, with significant implications for
the composition of forests throughout the eastern US. The loss of
Hemlocks has cascading implications for many facets of the forest
ecosystem beyond the trees themselves, from associated flora and fauna
to soils and streams. This issue would attempt to be a comprehensive
look at the state of HWA-related research.
Timeline: we hope to have submissions in by the end of June 2013, with
a projected publication date of March 2014.
In order to keep costs down, the issue would be published primarily as
an online volume. However, the option to purchase professionally printed
copies would be available to all contributing authors. Authors would be
responsible for covering page charges ($40 per page) for their
manuscripts plus a $110 pdf reprint fee.
The issue would be available to subscribers of both NENA and SENA
through the journals’ website, and would also be accessible through
online full-text databases, such as BioOne, EbscoHost, and Proquest, and
through a wide range of indexing databases.
