AERS Spring Meeting April 11-13, 2013
THEME: "Revolutionary Thinking: Historical Reconstructions in Coastal Systems” Reconstruction of past estuarine and coastal ecosystem phenology has long been an academic pursuit. The sedimentary record, paleoecological indicators, chemical markers, and compilation of historical records and datasets have all been used to reconstruct historical rates of nutrient loading, fisheries landings, seagrass distribution, habitat type, and extent of hypoxia, and to track the eutrophication of coastal systems from pre-colonial times to the present. Through a series of keynote and contributed presentations, we hope to illustrate the wide variety of methods available for conducting historical ecology, the heuristic value of such exercises, and the practical benefits that can be gained by using the past as prelude to the future. HOSTS: Mark Brush and Sam Lake (VIMS) KEYNOTE SPEAKERS: Grace Brush, Johns Hopkins University; Norbert Jaworski, EPA (retired); Michael Kemp, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science; Anna Wachnicka, Florida International University; John Waldman, Queens College - City University of New York SPECIAL TALK: Kent Mountford DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION, ABSTRACTS, & STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS: MARCH 15, 2013 REGISTRATION & ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS OPEN ONLINE: www.aers.info/meetings.html EMAIL COMPLETE STUDENT TRAVEL APPLICATION TO DAVID YOZZO: [email protected] VENUE: Colonial Williamsburg, Woodlands Conference Center, Williamsburg, VA http://www.colonialwilliamsburg.com/stay/williamsburg-woodlands/ ONLINE: https://resweb.passkey.com/go/26120 PHONE: 1 (800) 261-9530 Use Booking ID: 26120 BLOCK AVAILABLE UNTIL: March 15.
