3/14/2013 Dear managers of surrogate species programs: This is a request for assistance in research aimed at identifying challenges with surrogate species approaches to environmental management. While there is a plethora of literature on the surrogate approach, there is scarce input by people like you who are implementing the method. This research hopes to broaden the scientific community’s perspective on surrogate applications by including your input. I am requesting that you take one of two surveys and provide monitoring results from your programs if they are available. There are two levels at which managers can participate: • Level one- Fill out a short survey with multiple choice questions and short answer questions at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SurrogateProgramsZMWWS92 • Level two- Fill out a longer survey that builds on the shorter survey with ranking questions and two long answer questions at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YLF38LYmanagersofsurrogateprogramslongversio n Please forward monitoring results from your program labeled “surrogate” to Leslie Rowland at [email protected] and indicate if you would like for them to remain anonymous. This research will be included in a Master’s of Science capstone research paper through the American Public University and will be submitted for publication. Mangers who wish their survey responses to remain anonymous can indicate so on the final question of either survey. Requests for anonymity will absolutely be respected. To participate, use the links provided above. Any questions, additional comments, concerns, or requests for survey results can be sent to Leslie Rowland at [email protected] This research depends on your participation. Thank you so much for contributing to this effort. Best regards, Leslie Rowland- Graduate Student at American Public University Master’s of Science in Environmental Management and Policy
