I wanted to post this message for ecologists out there that who have a need for specialty-made equipment, but are without the shop tools or know-how on how to actually make things. Case in point, I have needed a soil corer, a rig for taking birdÂ’s eye view photographs from camera traps, a truck mount for radio telemetry equipment, and security boxes for camera traps. Such equipment is commercially available, however, can be expensive and didn't exactly meet my needs.
I was put in contact with a local machinist, Rich Carpino, who worked with me to create the sampling equipment I needed. Mr. Carpino evaluated the concept, offered suggestions, and built quality products at very competitive prices. This message is not meant to be an advertisement for a commercial project or for Rich Carpino. Rather, it is a suggestion to reach out to local tradespeople who might be able to assist in creating one-off, quality sampling equipment specific to your needs. And if you do want to be put in touch with Rich, you can always contact me directly.
