Plant Ecology Field Assistant (1) needed from ~ May 30th – Aug 15th for a
study on tropical pollination and resource use in hummingbirds in the
beautiful and remote Andean Choco Cloud-forests of Ecuador. The project is
part of a PhD dissertation at Stony Brook University, and will take place
at the Maquipicuna <http://www.maqui.org/> and Santa
Lucia<http://www.santaluciaecuador.com/>Ecolodges inNorthern,
Ecuador<http://goo.gl/maps/uwBIY>.
Applicant must be in excellent physical condition due to the high altitude
and steep elevation gradient (1300m – 2800m). Responsibilities include
measuring nectar volume and concentration of tropical hummingbird
pollinated flowers, delineating vegetation quadrats, placing cameras to
monitor hummingbird visitation, and changing hummingbird feeder water. Room
and board at the world-renown Maquipicuna and Santa Lucia ecolodges
provided, but applicant must cover airfare to Quito, Ecuador. Prior
experience in monitoring and delineating vegetation quadrats or transects
required. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred, but not critical. Field
assistant will be asked to work a period of six days on, one day off, with
amazing opportunities to explore a worldwide biodiversity hotspot. Please
