James -- take a look at
"Scientific Method for Ecological Research"

I watched this book develop over the years from a couple of courses
Dr. Ford was teaching, and I think it might be exactly what you want.

Hello everyone:
I am in search of a book to use for a research methods course. The
course
will be taught to graduate students, usually first-year master's
students in
a ecology based field. I have taught this class once before and I
used a
combination of The Ecological Detective and A Primer of Natural
Resource
Science. I thought those worked okay, but I was hoping to find a
book that
could "do it all." Particularly I am interested in a book that helps
students understand how to ask appropriate research questions,
relate those
questions to hypotheses, and then develop predictions. I appreciate
all
responses. I will summarize after a week or so.
Kind regards.
