The Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy (CASSE)
is proud to feature a new book, _Supply Shock: Economic Growth at the
Crossroads and the Steady State Solution_:

_Supply Shock_ is
the culmination of 13 years' work by Brian Czech, CASSE's founding
president. Many of you know Brian from his earlier work in raising
awareness of the conflict between economic growth and environmental
protection. This work has resulted in a unified stance taken by numerous
scientific, professional societies including TWS, USSEE, ASM, SCB (North
America Section thus far), and others alongside CASSE. _Supply Shock_
justifies their position with depth, breadth, and verve.

_Supply
Shock_ provides an accessible, comprehensive critique of economic growth
and describes the divorce of conventional economics from the natural
world, leading to the ecological problems we know all too well. However,
_Supply Shock_ is more about the solutions - ecological, political, and
policy solutions - than the problem of overgrowth. It is a true
trade/textbook, combining ecology, economics, history, anthropology,
sociology, and political science with current affairs in the
environment, the United States, and international diplomacy. This makes
_Supply Shock_ an important addition to 21st century curricula.

_Supply Shock_ has been endorsed by past directors of natural
resources agencies, standing presidents of professional natural
resources societies, and numerous other dignitaries. Some examples are
noted here:

_Supply Shock_ was written for a very broad audience, but it will
especially resonate with ecological scholars, students, and natural
resources professionals. Numerous parallels between the economy of
nature and the human economy, the trophic theory of money, and exposure
of the "self-sufficient services fallacy" are but some of the unique
contributions in _Supply Shock_. This is the go-to book for refuting the
fallacious, destructive notion that "there is no conflict between
growing the economy and protecting the environment."

As a scholar or
student, read _Supply Shock_ and you will find valuable new tools for
your conceptual and rhetorical toolkit. As a natural resources
professional, use the concepts from _Supply Shock_ to get the discussion
going beyond the stovepipes and out into the economic and social
community. For those with an activist bent, help promote _Supply Shock_
on websites, blogs, and social media, or simply by email. Amazon and
other reviews are also helpful.

Instructors should feel free to
request an exam copy from Sara Reeves at [email protected]. Pass this
email along to colleagues who teach classes related to environmental
sustainability, big-picture conservation, ecological or environmental
economics, and political science. Contact your university bookstore and
ask them to stock the book.

Thanks!
