Quite. But the original Indo-European root, "skep" meant to hack or to cut.
One has to go farther back than the Internet to get to the original
etymological roots. Etymologists make mistakes too. That's what peer review
and replication of research is for.
But no matter--I know that there's a snowball's chance in hell of
overpowering the semantic alliances at this late date, BUT, science should
be more precise in its terminology, especially ecology.
My main point is that it is incumbent upon any intellectual discipline to
inform the public at large that landscaping is, as one ecologist once put
it, "like putting lipstick on a corpse." Ecology, especially restoration
ecology, is more like restorative (not "plastic") surgery.

dutch/old english. Plus taking a look at it sounds like the scape suffix
