Dear Colleagues, We invite you to a special session entitled "At the hub: lessons learned by early-career ecologists in grassroots research networks" on Monday, 5 August from 11:30am-1:15pm at the Ecological Society of America meeting in Minneapolis, MN. This special session will consist of a panel of early-career ecologists representing five grassroots networks, and a wider discussion of the opportunities and challenges grassroots networks provide. The highlighted networks include the Global Lakes Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON), National Phenology Network (NPN), the Nutrient Network (NutNet), Smithsonian Institution Global Earth Observatory (SIGEO), Zostera Experimental Network (ZEN), and others.
We present this workshop as an opportunity for network coordinators and members to learn from each other, as well as to demonstrate the feasibility of the distributed approach for ecologists interested in participating in or starting their own research networks. By sharing the perspectives of scientists from each of the highlighted networks, we hope to demonstrate how distributed research approaches can be especially fruitful for ecologists at an early stage of their career. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you in Minneapolis in August! All of our best, Eric Lind and Cayelan Carey [email protected] [email protected]
