Postdoctoral Scholar - Center for Environmental Biology The Center for Environmental Biology (CEB) at the University of California, Irvine, is hiring a post-doctoral researcher to work on issues of vegetation change and dynamics in the Nature Reserve of Orange County. The post-doc will work on projects that include: evaluating historical data sets on vegetation dynamics, synthesizing data on legacy experiments, and compiling and analyzing data on rare plant abundance, distribution and dynamics. The goals of CEB (http://www.uciceb.com/) are to link academic research with ecosystem management and stewardship of natural resources, and to educate the next generation of environmental biologists and stewards. In collaboration with CEB faculty members, local land managers, and Nature Reserve of Orange County scientists, the successful candidate will utilize existing data to compile knowledge of rare plants and to address questions related to causes and consequences of rarity, potential response of rare plants to global change, or potential for restoration to increase rare plant population sizes. The position includes opportunities to develop empirical projects that test questions developed through the analysis of the rare plant database. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in ecology or a related field. A strong background in GIS, plant monitoring, distribution analysis and modeling, and expertise in working with large databases is strongly encouraged. Funding is available for at least 24 months. For further information on the position, please contact Travis Huxman ([email protected]).
Review of files will begin June 1, 2013 and continue until the position is filled. Position may start as early as July 1, 2013. Please include a cover letter, your curriculum vitae, as well as the names and addresses of three potential referees.
