Four (4) years of experience as a Software Engineer in PHP or equivalent. Additional years of experience and IEEE Certified Software Development (Associate or Professional) or Software Engineering certifications from recognized US-based universities may substitute for experience. Demonstrated experience writing software packages to interact with object-relational databases, creating web-based and HTML 5 compliant front-end user interfaces, and working with XML, including development of XML schema Ability to work closely with other members of a software development team with minimum supervision needed, self-motivated and self-disciplined, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred QualificationsAt least five years of experience developing web applications in PHP or similar dynamic languages. Experience in the following: - Creating interactive web-based user interfaces using JavaScript, HTML 5 and interrelated technologies such as AJAX, - Developing RESTful web services and scripting WSDL following community standards, - Working experience with PostgreSQL or similar object-relational database, and PostGIS, - Creating applications in similar object-oriented languages, such as Java, - Working in a team environment using source code version control such as Mercurial, Git, Subversion or CVS, and issue tracking systems (e.g. JIRA), - Demonstrated experience in developing a catalog system for data from heterogeneous sources and in implementing systems for data visualization; - IEEE Certified Software Development (Associate or Professional) or from recognized USA-based universities software engineering certificates are a plus but not required, and - Demonstrated experience in the installation and management of THREDDS, OPeNDAP and ERDDAP, preferred but not required. Job DutiesAssist in the implementation of a variety of software solutions to integrate the various components that makes up the GRIIDC information system based on an architectural design. Publication of the modules on an OpenSource environment also entails the need to document each module as they are published and deployed. Assist GRIIDC administer its servers, storage devices and networks to ensure efficient communication and data transports. Assist GRIIDC in the design of GRIIDC infrastructure that also entails the need to install and evaluate existing products to a CentOS-based server with Drupal CMS. Work with team members to ensure delivery of products and services as scheduled and planned, which may require assisting other members of the technical team developing related modules. Assist in testing and maintenance of GRIIDC developed modules and system in general. Assist in training on the efficient use of the developed system to members of the team and clients of the product and services. Keep track of issues raised during the development, testing and deployment phases of the information system using standard issue tracking systems.
