Dear ECOLOG-L members, On July 2013 a team of biologists and sociologists will be paddling down the great Amazon river starting in Ecuador and traveling through Peru to finally ending their journey in the Colombian-Brazilian border (1300km). All this to gain better knowledge on the challenges conservation faces in this region. Also, before and during the expedition funds are being raised to support three locally based NGOs: Cofan Survival Fund - Ecuador (http://www.cofan.org/en.html) from whom we'll buy an eco boat to serve as a support vessel; Entrópkia - Colombia (http://www.entropika.org/en/index.html), local NGO focused on targeting illegal animal trade and supporting sustainable development initiatives with local indigenous communities; and, Maikuchiga (http://maikuchiga.org/englishversion.html) also local NGO focused on primate conservation and environmental education to aid in the fight agains wild life trade.
You can all follow the expedition, support it, share information, send good vibes, etc, following the project's sites. Any contribution will be most welcome and kindly received. http://www.entropika.org/en/supamazon.html https://www.facebook.com/SUPAmazon Kind regards, Juan Fernando Millán.
