A position is available for a full-time research technician to conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Brian Lutz at Kent State University. The position will focus initially on the startup of a new laboratory, involving placing orders, setting up laboratory equipment, establishing standard operating procedures, and ensuring quality control. Following this, the position will primarily involve laboratory and field research. Research projects focus on understanding biogeochemical and ecosystem processes in a variety of natural and human impacted settings. Tasks will most often involve collection of water and soil samples, chemical analysis, and assisting with data management. The position will require overseeing and maintaining the functioning of analytical equipment, including: TOC/TN, IC, ICP-OES, inorganic nutrient autoanalyzer, HPLC, and GC. Experience with all of these instruments is not required, but the capacity and willingness to learn is essential.
Previous research experience is desired, particularly experience in laboratory chemistry and environmental sampling. An undergraduate degree (BA or BS) is required, as well as a valid drivers license and the ability to drive to/from field sites.
