This is a 1.00 FTE, with 0.50 FTE in the College of Tropical Agriculture and
Human Resources (CTAHR) position number 83142 and 0.50 FTE in the Water
Resources Research Center (WRRC) position number 0070137, with tenure
base in CTAHR. To begin January 1, 2014, for best consideration all application

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Teach (or co-teach) core course(s) in NREM undergraduate and/or
graduate curriculum, which could include Natural Resource and
Environmental Policy (NREM 302), or Applied Calculus for Management,
Life Sciences and Human Resources (NREM 203).
2. Develop and teach a new undergraduate and/or graduate course in
Human
Dimensions of Natural Resources and/or Ecosystem Services so the
Department can strengthen the specialty area in Human Dimensions for
undergraduate and graduate majors.
3. Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
4. Conduct research on human dimensions of natural resources, including
such aspects such as agro-ecosystems, human-nature conflicts,
urban-rural interface, water security, water policy and community
development, ecosystem services, or sustainable systems. An integrated
systems approach (i.e. coupled human-nature systems approach) to
understanding the linkages, interactions and dynamics between natural
environments, ecosystems and water, and human systems for sustainable
livelihoods is desired.
5. Lead the functions of the Human/Social/Economic Dimension Division
of
WRRC by working collaboratively with colleagues from the WRRC and other
University of Hawai‘i faculty to pursue extramural grants and contracts
to fund research on issues relevant to Hawai‘i, the Pacific Basin, and
other regions of the world.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in a social science or interdisciplinary natural and social
science field related to understanding the linkages between human
activities, ecosystems, and natural resources, from a college
or university of recognized standing.
2. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively.
3. Experience working on collaborative and interdisciplinary research
teams that bridge the natural and social sciences.
4. Demonstrated expertise and interest in conducting quantitative
research as evidenced by publications in scholarly journals and
presentations at professional conferences.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience teaching college and/or graduate-level courses in human
dimensions.
2. Postdoctoral research experience related to understanding the
linkages between human activities and the natural environment.
3. Background training in human dimensions of natural resources and/or
training in systems modeling.
4. Demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding.
5. Experience advising undergraduate and/or graduate students and/or
serving on graduate student committees.
6. Experience developing and teaching distance learning courses.
7. Experience leading or participating in international research,
education or development projects.
