SNAP: /Science for Nature and People/*is a new collaborative venture of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and UCSB's National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) to create a fundamentally different way to identify and tackle large-scale ecological challenges that threaten the integrity of nature and human well-being. These efforts will be undertaken through interdisciplinary, collaborative Working Groups that will be hosted at NCEAS.A *SNAP* Working Group led by TNC and WCS will focus on the integration of natural defenses into coastal disaster risk reduction.

We seek a researcher who will be based at NCEAS in Santa Barbara, CA and will be centrally involved in: 1) a rigorous assessment of the effectiveness of natural defenses compared to other approaches in coastal areas globally; 2) the identification of best practices in coastal engineering that will generate guidance to inform Green Infrastructure initiatives; and, 3) participation in the SNAP Working Group. This full time position offers competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience. The initial appointment is for 1 year with the possibility of an additional year.
