Hi Shawn,

We've been using Wingscapes timelapse cameras to study rattlesnake
behavior for a few years now and LOVE them. They meet all the criteria
you list. Our preferred model is the TimelapseCam 8.0:

Looks like they're currently sold out on their website, but you may be
able to find them on Amazon.

We've had some issues with them shutting off in very hot weather (>90F
in full sun), but otherwise have had few problems. There are solar
panels available to extend battery life, so that they can be left in
the field for extended periods of time. We typically set ours to take
photos every 30sec from sunup to sundown and could leave them for ~a
week with a 8gb sd card.

The image quality is pretty good; we used them to ID individual
rattlesnakes based on their dorsal patterns, so I think species ID
would be feasible. We've posted a handful of our photos on facebook
and many others end up in our blog.

Let me know if you have specific questions on how to use them or deal
with the hot weather issue.
