The Organic Center seeks candidates for the full-time position of Project Manager for its science programs. The Organic Center is a non-profit housed under the administrative auspices of the Organic Trade Association (OTA) in Washington, D.C., with the mission of convening and conducting credible, evidence-based science on the health and environmental benefits of organic food and farming, and communicating those benefits to the public.
Working under the supervision of the Organic Centers Director of Science Programs and OTAs Executive Director/CEO, the Project Manager will aid in scientific literature communication, research project development, and administrative tasks. Duties and responsibilities: Find current scientific journal articles about research on issues of interest to the organic community Write summaries of primary research in clear, understandable language for the general public Post summaries on our website with corresponding pictures Manage social media sites Write short articles updating the public about The Organic Centers activities for publication in the newsletter Interview scientists for articles to be published on the website Find research articles on specific food ingredients and write summaries of the research to introduce recipes that will be posted on the website Connect with organic companies to inform them of research that may interest them, and develop a database of contacts for pushing out information to interested companies Investigate current trends and areas of research need Research topics and commodities of interest and develop reports summarizing research findings Present research findings and summaries at meetings and events Develop outreach material as necessary. Qualifications: Masters Degree or Ph.D. in a related field of study such as biology, public health, nutrition, agronomy, or environmental studies Proficiency in analytical and communication tools Experience analyzing and communicating scientific literature Demonstrated experience leading and managing projects and programs. Qualities for the Successful Candidate: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment A comprehensive understanding of the appropriate use of scientific and technical information in public understanding Creativity, initiative, and a passion for science communication Specific scientific understanding of organic and sustainable agriculture and its public and environmental health benefits Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required Commitment to independent, accurate, scientific research and communication of that research. Compensation: This is an exempt position and the salary is commensurate with experience.
