This is a full time faculty position starting in the 2014/15 academic year.

The Evergreen State College seeks a quantitative and field-oriented freshwater
ecologist with research experience in stream and riparian ecology to teach in a
wide range of interdisciplinary courses at the undergraduate level. Candidates
must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching at all levels. A
broad knowledge of evolution, ecological interactions among freshwater
organisms and the interactions between freshwater and terrestrial plants,
microorganisms, invertebrates and ecosystem processes is important for a
successful applicant for this position. Specific experience with questions that
link across disciplines from major ecological phenomena (i.e., leaf
decomposition and carbon cycling) to the fine scale influence of genetic
variation is desired. Washington State provides a variety of freshwater
ecosystems including those that have been severely impacted by human
activities, and a faculty in this position would have the opportunity to
incorporate these restoration efforts into her or his teaching. With this in
mind, a successful applicant should have a demonstrated ability to engage
undergraduate students in ecosystem and community ecology and outreach in
freshwater and riparian habitats.

The Evergreen State College is committed to building a diverse and broadly
trained faculty. We encourage candidates with demonstrated experience pursuing
innovative and engaging teaching strategies, interest and experience working
with faculty from other disciplines and experience working with diverse and
underserved populations to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
•    PhD in Biology;
• Demonstrated experience teaching freshwater biology and ecology with an
emphasis on linkages between terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and
quantitative field methodologies;
• Demonstrated interest or experience in working with communities to help
restore riparian habitats;
• Research goals compatible with Evergreen's mission to mentor undergraduate
students;
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching in an interdisciplinary
context; and
•    College level teaching experience.

Review of complete applications begins October 23, 2013. We will continue to
accept applications until finalists are selected. For more information please
