*Just about two weeks ago I posted on ECOLOG requesting your advice on
finding funding to pursue graduate studies abroad (as a US citizen). I had
a number of good responses. In addition I had a number of people request
that I share the information I found out as many others seem to be hitting
the same roadblocks that I have. So, without further ado, a summary of
your responses:*

   - FONDECYT (analogous to the USDA) has graduate and postdoctoral funding
competitions for those interested in studying in Chile which are open to
   Americans.

   - Marie Curie Actions offers ‘Action Fellowships’ which are open
researchers regardless of their nationality or field of research, none of
these are open at the moment but to find more visit:
   http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/index_en.htm

   - Dr. Andrew of the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences at Murdoch
University in Western Australia says, “…if Western Australia isn’t too far
away for you, my university offers scholarships to international students
   for graduate studies.”

   - Some Canadian funding sources which do not include stipulations on who
the money goes to include: Parks Canada and Industrial NSERC funding. It
was suggested to find a professor who has funding for a project from one of
   these sources.

   - Someone suggested this website:

   - Many people suggested that I introduce myself and my research intent
on ECOLOG and maybe someone will be interested in me.

   - For study in the EU multiple people suggested Erasmus Mundus, see more
   here
   http://ec.europa.eu/education/external-relation-programmes/mundus_en.htm.

   - In Germany paid internships are offered through DAAD RISE and RISE
Pro, whose goal is to get North American students interested in research
and ultimately complete a masters and PhD programs in Germany. Paid summer
and fall internships for post grad/masters/doctorate students can be found
at https://www.daad.org/risepro DAAD (grants and scholarships) can be
   found at https://www.daad.org/

   - Someone posted regarding and NSF program titled: East Asia and Pacific
Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI)

An EAPSI award provides U.S. graduate students in science, engineering, and
education: 1) first-hand research experiences in Australia, China, Japan,
Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan; 2) an introduction to the
science, science policy, and scientific infrastructure of the respective
location; and 3) an orientation to the society, culture, and language. It
is expected that EAPSI awards will help students initiate professional
relationships to enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts.

The NSF award includes participation in the Pre-Departure Orientation,
summer stipend of $5,000, and roundtrip airplane ticket to the host
location. EAPSI partner agencies pay in-country living expenses during the
Summer Institutes.

   - The remainder of the suggestions included finding a professor with
funding, look for RA/TA ships, find university scholarships and supplement
   if needed, etc.

*Thank you all for your responses and I hope this helps some other people
out there.*

* Best,*

*Phil.*
