Hi everyone,

I am in a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate some constructive advice.

I am in the middle of a Masters program in ecology in another country. I
applied out of interest in the research project rather than interest in the
school. Even though the school is well respected, I'm finding that my
degree program is very different than what I expected. It is completely
independent research (no teaching component at all). My 2 major professors
are on the other side of the country most of the time. They either can't be
readily accessible or plain don't want to be (a problem in itself).

I do really like my research project, which is why I have not already left.
I have just been wondering whether I would be better off in a degree with a
more structured classroom component in addition to the research. I'm not
really given access to situations where I could learn marketable skills
that would help me get a job when I graduate, in case I decide not to go
straight into a PhD.

If anyone has any feedback about the following questions, I'd love to hear
it:

*Do you have any experience with leaving a degree program (for a good
reason), especially internationally, and successfully finding another
opportunity in the same field? Did transferring hurt you in any way?

*Do any supervisors out there have any experience or thoughts on taking on
a graduate student that was in a similar situation to mine?

*Will I have a chance at finding funding anywhere ever again?

*Is there anything else I could do? Could I co-register at another school
instead of fully leaving mine?

Thanks for any help you can give me!
Charlene
