Kennesaw State University invites applications for the Chair of the
Department of Biology and Physics. The Department seeks a dynamic leader and
scholar who will provide visionary leadership to facilitate collaborative
and interdisciplinary research, innovative teaching and outreach activities.
 Primary responsibilities include faculty recruitment and development,
providing leadership in graduate program growth and development, and
administrative oversight of a large and diverse department.  The department
currently consists of 48 tenure track faculty who are engaged in a broad
array of research and educational activities, with funded research programs
in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, developmental and
evolutionary biology, ecology, laser physics, particle physics and in
biology and physics education.  The Department offers undergraduate degrees
in biology and biology education as well as a rapidly developing graduate
program in Integrative Biology.  Additionally, the department offers MAT
degrees in both Biology and Physics Education.  The Department serves over
1300 undergraduate Biology majors and approximately 30 graduate students.

Kennesaw State University, a comprehensive university located in the greater
Atlanta metropolitan area, is the third-largest institution within the
University System of Georgia.  The Department, as part of the College of
Science and Mathematics, is in an exciting phase of institutional growth,
with a newly constructed research facility as well as NSF-funded major
instrumentation core facilities. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong record of scholarly achievement, a
significant record of securing external funding for discipline based
research and evidence of leadership ability.  Candidates with experience in
graduate education and programs, faculty recruitment, and faculty
professional development will be given preference. 

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in any sub-discipline of biology and
a record of professional achievement commensurate with that of immediate
tenure and appointment as Professor and Chair.   Applicants should submit a
cover letter describing their experience, background and qualifications for
this position.  Candidates should provide a statement of their academic
leadership philosophy and vision for an active and engaged modern biology
department, as well as a statement that describes their current and future
research program.  Applicants should include an academic vita and provide
the names and contact information of three professional references.  To
