This position serves as the senior program advisor for contaminated sediment 
issues on state-owned aquatic land in the Aquatic Resources Program. This 
position is responsible for reviewing and recommending solutions to complex, 
sensitive problems critical to DNR, the state of Washington, and threats to 
human health and the environment.

It promotes the remediation and management of contaminated areas of state-owned 
aquatic lands to meet DNR management goals.  The position informs decisions 
pertaining to contaminated site cleanup and DNR's positions as a potentially 
responsible party, land manager, and natural resource steward. To achieve these 
responsibilities, the position supervises the Sediment Quality Unit, a group of 
5-6 professional staff, within the Program Development Section of the Aquatic 
Resources Division.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of 
the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field and six 
years of professional level experience in environmental analysis or control, or 
environmental planning, which includes two years equal to an Environmental 
Specialist 3 or above
OR -
A Master's degree in one of the above fields and four years of professional- 
level experience as required above which includes two years equal to an 
Environmental Specialist 3 or above. OR -
A Ph.D. in one of the above fields and three years of professional-level 
experience as required above which includes two years equal to an Environmental 
Specialist 3 or above.
OR -
One year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 4.

And the following:

* Knowledge of applicable state (MTCA), federal (CERCLA, OPA), and local 
environmental regulations and policies.
* Knowledge of methods for the development of a contaminated sediments program.
* Demonstrated senior-level expertise identifying and assessing contaminated 
sediments program service delivery needs and requirements and representing a 
contaminated sediments program on complex or controversial issues with other 
agencies, jurisdictions or interest groups.
* Demonstrated senior-level knowledge of the comprehensive planning process to 
collect, analyze, and summarize large, disparate sets of information in order 
to develop concise issues and propose creative solutions.
