Environmental Scientist, Visiting Faculty Position (open rank)

The Environmental and Urban Studies (EUS) Program at Bard College seeks
applicants for a visiting position for the spring semester of 2014 to teach
"EUS 102: Introduction to Environmental and Urban Science." This is a
required first-year course designed to introduce students to core scientific
principles necessary to understand current basic earth systems. Topics may
include carbon and nitrogen cycling, aquatic chemistry and toxicology,
atmospheric science, and geology. The course employs a problem-based
learning approach that introduces students to the functioning of important
earth systems through current environmental and sustainability issues, e.g.,
natural gas hydrofracking and other energy development; water and air
pollution; atmospheric composition and climate change; soil formation and
degradation; biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, and habitat loss; etc.

The EUS program adopts an interdisciplinary approach to issues of regional,
national and global importance by examining relationships between human
society and the natural and built environments. For more information on EUS,
please visit http://eus.bard.edu/ .

Bard is a highly selective private liberal arts college with approximately
1,900 students, located 90 miles north of New York City on the Hudson River.
