Job Description:
The Department of Geography and Planning at the University at Albany, State 
University of New York, invites applications for 2 tenure-track assistant 
professor positions specializing in 1) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 
design and development or in 2) GIS applications including, but not limited 
to, environmental studies, health and the environment, climate change, and 
human-environment interactions. Candidates for both positions must be able 
to teach existing undergraduate courses on the science and application of 
GIS in addition to teaching advanced courses in GIS and map server 
development (Position 1) or advanced GIS application (Position 2).

Successful candidates will maintain active scholarly research programs while 
contributing to the spatial statistical modeling and technology component of 
our graduate and undergraduate programs including the BA in Geography, the 
undergraduate and graduate certificate programs in Geographic Information 
Systems and Remote Sensing, the MA in Geography, and the Master’s in 
Regional Planning (MRP).

Requirements:
Minimum:

A doctoral degree in Geography at the time of appointment from a university 
accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally 
recognized accrediting organization
Familiarity with ArcGIS, and one or more commercial or open source 
geographic information system (GIS) packages
Ability to teach GIS courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels
Demonstrated maintenance of an active scholarly research program
Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with and 
instruct a culturally diverse population.
Preferred:

Demonstrated interest and ability in acquiring external funding for research
