FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Department of Natural Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New
York, invites applications for 2 full-time, tenure-track positions in
Environmental Biology at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in fall 2014. 

Assistant Professor - Aquatic Ecology (Environmental Biology)

Applications are encouraged from candidates in marine or freshwater ecology.
We are seeking an outstanding field ecologist who works in freshwater or
marine ecosystems. Research may be at any level of ecological organization.
Applications should describe how current and future research efforts will:
a) be performed in ecosystems within the New York metropolitan region; b)
contribute to ecosystem management decisions; and c) leverage ongoing
research/resources at Baruch College and the City University of New York.

Assistant Professor - Molecular Biology (Environmental Biology) 

Applications are encouraged from candidates in marine molecular biology. We
are seeking a marine molecular biologist who works in the areas of microbial
biology, microbial-invertebrate interactions/symbiosis, plankton physiology,
or chemical ecology of marine microbes. Ideally, the candidate will be
familiar with various aspects of incorporating genomics and bioinformatics.
We also seek a candidate with a desire to engage students and the public
about scientific issues regarding marine systems.

The successful candidates will add research expertise to our growing group
specializing in Environmental Biology, build an externally funded research
program, mentor undergraduates in research, and teach introductory courses
in Ecology/Environmental Science as well as upper-level courses in their
area of expertise. The candidate will provide intellectual leadership and
collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary team of faculty interested
in local and global environmental issues. 

Baruch College is a senior institution in the City University of New York
system. It is located in the historic Gramercy Park/Flatiron district of
Manhattan and has the most diverse student population of any college in the
nation. 

QUALIFICATIONS 
Ph.D. degree is required by September 1, 2014 when the appointment begins.
Candidates should have teaching experience and peer-reviewed publications in
their field.
