Position Announcement Position Title: Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist - Marine Economics
Appointment: 45% Extension / 55% Sea Grant appointment, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Department of Agricultural Economics, Texas A&M University System General Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities involve statewide leadership and coordination for extension education programs and applied research in marine economics with an emphasis in marketing/management and resource economics by providing technical expertise and educational program development. Primary audiences include fishermen, processors, wholesale and retail trade, trade associations, other agencies/groups, regional and state leaders, federal and state employees, and media. Responsibilities require individual and team efforts to plan, develop, implement and evaluate curricula, extension education programs, and applied research related to seafood marketing/management and resource economics affecting clientele. Educational program delivery will include extension and peer reviewed publications, workshops, conferences, computer and web based software, electronic and mass media releases. The individual also will be responsible for developing grant & contract proposals where appropriate to support his or her applied research and outreach programs. The successful candidate will be expected to cooperate with campus and district-based extension and research faculty, district extension administrators, county extension agents, regional program leaders, and other specialists, as necessary in developing and delivering nationally recognized programs for extension faculty and clientele. Travel in- and out-of-state is necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. Administrative Relationships: The individual will report to the Department of Agricultural Economics. Qualifications: A PhD degree completed, or all but dissertation, in agricultural economics, economics, resource economics, business, or closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in extension, research, or similar work within the seafood industry, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, cooperate as a team member, lead applied research efforts, and demonstrate a willingness to be involved in outreach education with constituency groups.
