Assistant Professor in Aquatic Ecosystem Science The Department of Ecology and Environmental Science at Umeå University has about 160 members, including 50 PhD-students and 13 Professors (for further information, see www.emg.umu.se/english/?languageId=1). The Climate Impacts Research Centre (CIRC) is part of the Department and undertakes research in how climate and environmental changes affect the ecosystems of the north. Most of the staff of CIRC is stationed year-round in Abisko, Kiruna municipality (for further information, see www.emg.umu.se/english/research/circ/). At this centre, an assistant professorship in aquatic ecosystem science is now available. The holder of the position should carry out research in the area of ecology or biogeochemistry in subarctic-arctic aquatic ecosystems. Research directed towards both running waters and lakes are welcome. Important parts of the research within CIRC is to assess the impacts of terrestrial processes on aquatic ecosystems, to integrate terrestrial and aquatic processes in studies of biogeochemical cycles at the catchment and landscape level, and to assess their impact by climate dependent factors. The position is open for an outstanding scientist with a demonstrated record of achievements, and it is meritorious if the research planned can be integrated in on-going research at CIRC. The employment as assistant professor (forskarassistent) is restricted to a period of 4 years. An assistant professor will primarily conduct research but there may also be a possibility of teaching of up to 20% within the employment. Teaching duties require excellent proficiency in either Swedish or English. The department especially encourages female applicants. The expected starting date is May 1, 2014 but this can be negotiated. Candidates should have a PhD, preferably not more than seven years old, and documented research experiences within the area of the position.
