Research assistant needed to help collect breeding season data on a
population of wild jackdaws near to Cambridge, UK.
This position will serve as great experience for any student wishing to
pursue field work, and is ideal for recent graduates.
Help will be needed from April through to mid-June. The suitable
candidate will be able to commit at least 20 hours a week to help
monitor the progress of the breeding population. Duties will include
nestbox monitoring, setting up experiments, entering nest data into
Microsoft Access, and video coding when necessary. The candidate will be
permitted to conduct some of their own research so long as it does not
interfere with monitoring activities or ongoing experiments.
The field site is located in a rural village outside of Cambridge and
the candidate must be able to travel there most days via car or bicycle,
as the public transport options are unreliable.
Essential:
-Willingness to work hard and learn
-Available for the entire breeding season (April through mid-June)
-Ability to use Microsoft programs
-Background knowledge of biology, or ecology
Desired:
-No field research experience necessary, although candidates with
experience will be given priority.
No housing or salary will be provided, but the assistant will receive a
£500 stipend at the end of the breeding season.
