Hi Listers, First of all, thanks to everyone who responded to my previous request for information on seahorses in Thailand. I did find a couple of good populations, including one off Pattaya in the eastern Gulf of Thailand (see http://www.pattayatrader.com/?dospecial=archives#features/82 for a magazine article I wrote on the finding). Starting February, I’ll be extending my survey efforts to Vietnam. I'm surveying seahorse populations in Southeast Asia as part of my postdoctoral research at the Shedd Aquarium, in collaboration with Project Seahorse. We are interested in Vietnam because it exports large volumes of seahorses annually, and we'll like to assess the status and distribution of the local seahorse populations. I've done an initial search of published literature and web resources, but haven’t found much specific information about areas with good numbers of seahorses. If you've seen seahorses anywhere off the coasts of Vietnam recently (past 2-5 years), I would be very appreciative if you could email me at [email protected]. Information on specific location, habitat details, depths and approximate dates would be very useful. Apologies for any cross-postings. Thanks very much in advance!
