Description
The Northern Idaho ground squirrel (Urocitellus brunneus brunneus) is
federally threatened under ESA. We are using field experiments to test the
effectiveness of two forest treatments (burning vs thinning) on demographic
traits of Northern Idaho ground squirrel populations.

We will capture and mark ground squirrels using pit tags from the beginning
of April through August 17th 2013. We will compare demographic parameters
among treatments, including capture-recapture analyses to assess population
attributes (e.g., survival rates). We will locate hibernacula using radio-
telemetry.

Free housing will be provided to all technicians. Housing will range from
rustic to all the basic modern conveniences depending on field site
location. It is group housing so all applicants must be willing to share
living space with both our field crew and others working in the same area.

Weather does vary quite a bit throughout the field seasons and all
applicants must be willing and able to work in snowy/cold conditions, rainy
days, and hot days (90 degrees F or higher).
