*Lead Research Technician Position: Clark Lab Forest Ecology *


The Clark Lab will fill a lab-manager position.  This full-time position
comes with benefits, is available immediately, and extends through December
31, 2014, with the possibility of extension based on funding and work
performance. The lab studies forest community ecology, including tree
demography and phenology, and responses to disturbance and climate change.
Research sites are located in North Carolina and Massachusetts.  Duke
University is located in Durham, North Carolina.  Successful applicants
will need to secure housing in the Durham/Research Triangle area.
 Occasional travel is required.



Duties include the following:

* Oversee research projects

* Perform forest measurements of trees, seedlings, seed traps, and
environmental monitoring

* Hiring and supervision of full time and temporary summer technicians

* Planning and organization of travel including expenses, field schedules,
lodging, vehicles, equipment

* Data management, troubleshooting equipment, and maintenance of
environmental sensors

* Perform basic forest measurements and ecological assessments on projects,
including seedling census, DBH, LAI and canopy photographs, tree heights,
canopy assessments, reproductive status, basic dendrometry, and seed counts





The Clark Lab is based in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke

Candidates should have:

* A MS or BS degree in biology, ecology, botany, forestry or related field

* Supervisory experience

* An interest in both field and lab research.

* Experience with GIS and R is useful
