Family Forest Graduate Assistantship Much of the forestland in the United States is family forest, owned by individuals and families. The decisions these family forest owners make about the management and conservation of their land determines the public benefits that flow from the land now and in the future. The Family Forest Graduate Assistantship will help inform the decision of family forest owners through work in an integrated outreach and research program.
The assistantship is an effort of the Family Forest Research Center, a partnership of the University of Massachusetts and the USDA Forest Service (www.familyforestresearchcenter.org). Location: University of Massachusetts Amherst Assistantship Dates: Fall semester 2014 through Spring semester 2016 Responsibilities: The activities of the Family Forest Graduate Assistantship will include: - Assistance in the organization, delivery, and evaluation of the Massachusetts Keystone Project (www.MassKeystone.net) - Maintenance, marketing, and monitoring of our outreach website www.MassWoods.net - Assistance in the organization of conservation-based estate planning outreach events and Woods Forum programs (http://masswoods.net/woods-forum) - Implementation of the southern New England stumpage survey (http://masswoods.net/stumpage- report) Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in a field that will contribute to the responsibilities of the assistantship - Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills - Highly motivated to work with family forest owners - Experience in the community organizing or the conservation field a plus Compensation: This is a 20-hour a week paid assistantship which includes heath benefits and a tuition waiver.
