I would like to introduce you and your partner organizations to the NASA
Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET). ARSET conducts professional
trainings and other capacity building activities on the utilization of NASA
free and publicly available satellite remote sensing and model data for a
variety of water management applications including water resource management
and flood monitoring. ARSET also has trainings in the themes of Air Quality
and soon to be land-based remotely sensed data products.

The program works directly with agencies and policy makers to develop hands-
on and online courses that teach end-users how to access, visualize and
apply NASA Earth Science Data at regional and worldwide scales, using
interactive case studies to build familiarity and skills. ARSET hosts in-
person and online workshops and sessions throughout the year. If your
organization or partner organizations would benefit from the free water
management trainings offered by ARSET, please redistribute this announcement
and view the contact information below.

Training

First introducing the fundamentals of remote sensing and NASA earth
science modeling data, the water resource management theme conducts training
for sustainability with topics of drought, snowmelt, streamflow, flood
forecasting, water supply and irrigation, water quality, and climate impacts
on water resources. A number of web-tools are demonstrated for the access,
imaging, and usage of these data including Giovanni, Mirador, and
Reverb/ECHO. Flood monitoring training focuses on publically available,
near-global, web-based flooding tools that use NASA remote sensing data.
Time sequences of streamflow/river discharge maps and surface inundation
cover maps are analyzed. Live, step-by-step demonstration focused on
importing rainfall data and inundation data in to a GIS environment with
additional layers including terrain, river basins, landmarks (roads, health
facilities, warehouses, airports), and socioeconomic data for improved
decision support.
