The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science at the University of Nevada Reno (www.cabnr.unr.edu/nres) seeks an Ecohydrologist at the Assistant Professor level to conduct research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and to provide outreach in Ecohydrology, which involves the interactions and associated feedbacks between ecological systems and the hydrologic cycle. The Department is very interdisciplinary with faculty having expertise and research interests in the areas of hydrology, limnology, plant sciences, forestry, soil science, environmental science, landscape ecology, and wildlife science. The Department maintains a Master’s of Science program and offers doctoral degrees through three interdisciplinary programs managed by the University of Nevada, including the Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences (www.hydro.unr.edu), a collaborative effort between UNR and the Desert Research Institute that offers excellent opportunities for teaching and research. In addition, the Department has developed and offers the only undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Ecohydrology in the nation (www.ag.unr.edu/nres/bs_ecohydrology.aspx). The desired candidate is expected to collaborate broadly across the Department, the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources, the University, and Federal, State, and local agencies, and will play a fundamental role in the Ecohydrology undergraduate major.
Successful applicants are expected to: • establish a nationally-recognized, competitive research program in the broad area of Ecohydrology • publish in peer-reviewed journals • obtain extramural grant support • teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Ecohydrology and introductory hydrology that are required for Departmental and interdisciplinary academic programs • teach additional courses within their area of specialization • advise undergraduate and graduate students in the Department and in appropriate interdisciplinary graduate programs; and • provide outreach research, education, and leadership to academic, State, professional, and public stakeholders The position is expected to be filled as a 9-month tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. A start date of August 1, 2014 is desired, but can be negotiated. Required qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hydrology, ecology, or a related field in the natural sciences or engineering, have strong quantitative skills, and a record of scholarly activity in the form of publications and grants in the field of ecohydrology. Preferred qualifications: Postdoctoral or supervisory experience with students at graduate and undergraduate levels.
