In light of our previous updates, we would like to bring your attention to the following activities and opportunities for involvement with the Intergovernmental science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (<http://www.ipbes.net/>IPBES) in the next five years.

On 2 April 2014, IPBES issued the second <http://ipbes.net/component/docman/doc_download/1518-second-call-for-nominations-of-experts.html?Itemid=159>call for nominations of experts through IPBES member governments and other relevant stakeholders to help implementing its first <http://iucn.org/about/work/programmes/global_policy/gpu_our_work/ipbes/?14276/ipbes-programme-adopted>work programme 2014-2018. It is highly relevant to your work and the <http://www.iucn.org/what/global_programme/>IUCN Programme, building on the Resolutions on IPBES itself (<https://portals.iucn.org/docs/iucnpolicy/2012-resolutions/en/WCC-2012-Res-117-EN%20Operationalization%20of%20IPBES.pdf>WCC-2012-Res-117) and on IUCN's role in the Platform (<https://portals.iucn.org/docs/iucnpolicy/2012-resolutions/en/WCC-2012-Res-118-EN%20A%20significant%20role%20for%20IUCN%20in%20IPBES.pdf>WCC-2012-Res-118) adopted at the 2012 IUCN World Conservation Congress.

 The nominations are open for participation in the following expert groups to:

-->scope a set of regional and sub-regional assessments for a) Africa, b) Asia and Pacific, c) the Americas and the Caribbean, d) Europe and Central Asia, and e) Antarctica;

 -->scope a thematic assessment of land degradation and restoration.

Nominations of experts to contribute to the above opportunities should be made online, through the <http://www.ipbes.net/applicationform.html>dedicated web portal, and submitted along with the nominee's Curriculum Vitae by 8 June 2014 at the very latest. Self-nominations cannot be accepted. We encourage you to submit nominations well in advance of the deadline. Please also note that late nominations will not be considered.

IUCN encourages its Members and Commission members to seek such nominations through IPBES member governments. The current list of 118 IPBES-member governments and national focal points can be found <http://ipbes.net/about-ipbes/members-of-the-platform.html>here.

For further details and the application process, please consult the detailed letter from the IPBES Chair <http://ipbes.net/component/docman/doc_download/1518-second-call-for-nominations-of-experts.html?Itemid=159>here or visit the <http://www.ipbes.net/>IPBES official website.

A subsequent call for nominations for experts to contribute to other work programme deliverables (including invasive alien species and the sustainable use of biodiversity) will be circulated by the IPBES Secretariat later this year.

 Additional information

Information on IPBES and IUCN's involvement in IPBES is regularly updated on <http://www.iucn.org/ipbes>our website (mostly in English, but with some content in French and Spanish).
