Hi everyone,

I’m looking at humpback whale dive behavior for my master’s thesis.

Long story short, we have been doing time-depth tagging off California since
last year.

While tagging, we ran a dual frequency Lowrance finder at 50 Hz for fish and
200 Hz for krill.

In the field it was very clear when we were seeing prey patches.

I was hoping to go through the data at a later time (by viewing the .sl2 files
in Sonar Viewer) to identify which prey was present while tagging and at what
depth range.

This is proving to be much more difficult than I had hoped. Mostly because when
I look at the data in Sonar Viewer, even after adjusting the sensitivity and
color line, I am having a hard time differentiating noise from prey. I am also
having a hard time matching time to the pings.

Does anyone out there have experience analyzing this kind of fish finder data?

I’d appreciate any help!

Cheers,

Angie
