Postdoctoral Position in Social Structure and Disease Dynamics Cooperative Wildlife Research Laboratory
Southern Illinois University The SIU Cooperative Wildlife Research Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to study social dynamics of white-tailed deer. We have developed a >10-year dataset on movement and interactions among white-tailed deer in contiguous and fragmented habitats, which has led to preliminary models examining the interactions among disease impacts, management interventions, social structure, and population density. The successful candidate will be expected to take the analysis of these data in new directions, particularly in the realm of social network analysis and epidemic modeling, publish papers, and present findings at scientific meetings and to resource managers. Opportunities will be available to collaborate with principal investigators to seek additional funding for further field or modeling work that builds upon and enhances the existing knowledge base, and to gain experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers. The position is funded for 1 year, which could be extended should additional funding be secured. Salary: ~$40,000 + generous benefit package Qualifications: The successful applicant will have: (1) obtained (recently) a Ph.D. in wildlife biology, ecology, biology, computer science, epidemiology, or a related field; (2) superior quantitative skills and experience with cutting edge analytical techniques, particularly network analysis and/or epidemic modeling; (3) strong communication skills; (4) a solid publication record; and (5) an ability to work both independently and within a team framework. Application Materials: Interested parties should submit a cover letter, CV, PDFs of pertinent publications, and list of 3 references no later than 6 June 2014. Start Date: 7/1/2014 Eric M.
