Hi, my name is Jordan Rogan and I am a recent college graduate from
Wheaton College, MA with a B.A. in Environmental Science. I am currently
seeking an opportunity to further my research experience and general working
experience in the field of the environmental sciences, particularly in
ecology and evolutionary biology and/or conservation biology. I have a wide
range of interests in these fields of study but I have a particular fondness
for conservation biology particularly of vertebrates such as birds and
mammals. I have comprehensive background knowledge in the field of Ecology,
Evolution and Environmental Sciences in general from sufficient coursework
in my undergraduate career in these areas, and I have also gained outside
research experience in the field.
During the Summer of 2013, I interned at Rice University in the
Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I worked specifically in
Professor Tom Miller's lab participating in field studies on plant
demography and ecological interactions. I worked both in the lab and the
field on several experiments particularly with native Texas grasses Agrostis
hyemalis and Agrostis elegans. I also assisted the lab technician with day
to day tasks in the lab and greenhouse to ensure the order and efficiency of
lab studies.
This past spring while attending Wheaton College, I conducted an
independent field study with two fellow students under the instruction of
Dr. John Kricher studying the foraging behavior of local birds in the nearby
campus woods in MA. This helped me gain valuable experience and knowledge in
conducting independent experiments in the field and methods of data
acquisition and analysis despite unfavorable weather conditions and
unforeseen variables. This, along with the ornithology course I took this
past semester, also strengthened my interest in studying birds, bird
behavior and bird conservation.
I plan to attend graduate school beginning in 2015, but am interested
in furthering my research experience throughout the next year in the field
of ecology and evolutionary biology or conservation biology. I am seeking
paid positions as I am looking to live on my own, and I am also particularly
interested in finding employment in the Houston, TX area, though I am open
to opportunities elsewhere as well. References and CV are available upon
