Hello, I am seeking to fill a field technician position for the summer season of 2014. The position will primarily consist of aiding in the collection of data for a long-term seedling dynamics project in southwestern Pennsylvania. Field work will be conducted at Powdermill Nature Reserve near Ligonier, PA (http://www.carnegiemnh.org/powdermill/). Specific duties would include data collection, entry, and management, censusing permanent seedling plots, constructing deer-exclosure fences, and collecting soil cores, among others. There is also the potential for the development of an independent research project if interested. Powdermill Nature Reserve is a great place to gain research experience. There are several cabins, a brand new nature center, and many students and scientists will be there conducting their own projects during the summer months.
Undergrads or recent graduates interested in gaining research experience are wanted. Background in biology, ecology, forestry, or botany is also desired. However, the only specific requirement is a desire for field research experience in ecology and the ability to hike and work outside in the woods. The position is available from June 10 through August, although the start and end dates can be flexible. **Food and housing at Powdermill Nature Reserve will be provided. Information on the Comita lab can be found at http://lizacomita.weebly.com/. If interested, please send an email to [email protected] with the dates that you would be available, as well as a current C.V. You may also send any questions that you might have about the position to the same address. Sincerely, Stephen Murphy PhD candidate The Comita Lab Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology The Ohio State University Columbus, OH 43210
