The Viral Epidemiology and Emergence Group at the Institute of Biodiversity,
Animal Health and Comparative Medicine and the MRC-University of Glasgow
Centre for Virus Research seeks to recruit (1) a Postdoctoral Associate, (2)
a Lab Technician and (3) an International Project Manager to support
projects examining the transmission dynamics of viral pathogens between
vampire bats and livestock and the epidemiology and control of endemic
zoonotic diseases. 

1. Postdoctoral Research Associate: Quantifying viral emergence between bats
and livestock. The successful applicant will play a leading role by
establishing a livestock pathogen surveillance network for correlative
studies of viral exposure risk and by implementing a bat exclosure
experiment to track cross-species transmission between bats and sentinel
livestock in real time using metagenomics and molecular diagnostics.
Fieldwork will be carried out in the Peruvian Andes and Amazon in
collaboration with local NGO and governmental units. Salary: Grade 7 £32,590

2. Laboratory Technician: Bat virus epidemiology and emergence. A technician
is required to contribute to the day-to-day running of the bat virus
epidemiology and emergence group, and to execute molecular and serological
assays studies examining patterns of infection and exposure to a variety of
bat-associated in samples collected from bats, domestic animals and humans
in Peru. Salary: Grade 5 £20,374 – 24,289. Closing date: 20 July 2014. The

3. International Project Manager: Epidemiology and control of endemic
zoonoses. The post-holder will provide administrative support to the
management of the Institute’s international research portfolio valued at £10
million and spanning 6 projects in South America and sub-Saharan Africa
focused on the epidemiology and control of zoonoses. International
responsibilities will include liaising with research partners in South
America (mostly Peru) and sub-Saharan Africa (mostly Tanzania), coordination
of outreach activities, and assisting the preparation documents for foreign
permitting agencies and local stakeholders. Salary: Grade 7. The post is
initially funded to April 2016 with good prospects for extension. Job
