Folks I'm writing a grant application and have a question regarding terminology.
I'm interested in characterising subsidies from marine pelagic to benthic habitats. According to my (possibly warped) thinking, the phrase pelagic-benthic coupling makes more sense than the reverse (benthic-pelagic coupling) as it includes an indication of the direction of flow. However, the majority of the literature seems to use benthic-pelagic coupling. Am I missing something and about to commit grant seppuku by using the pelagic-benthic version when it should be benthic-pelagic?
