Dear all,

This email is to encourage you to submit abstracts to a session *Representing
Soil Carbon Dynamics in Global Land Models to Improve Future IPCC
Assessments* at 2014 AGU Fall Meeting. A detailed description, conveners
and invited speakers of this session are at the end of this email.

Please submit your abstract before the deadline *August 6*, 23:59 EDT/03:59
+1 GMT.

We look forward to your participation and appreciate your contributions to
the topic.

Thank you!

Sincerely yours,

Lifen Jiang

On behalf of all conveners

*Description: *

A large amount of carbon is stored in terrestrial soils and dynamics of
soil organic carbon (SOC) are a critical component determining future
climate. However, most evaluations thus far indicate that global land
models predict SOC poorly. Several approaches have recently been developed
to improve behaviors of global land models in simulating SOC, for example,
data assimilation with global observational datasets, developing of a
vertically-resolved soil carbon model, and incorporating microbially driven
processes and wetland processes into models. This session will feature
results and new developments in various areas of soil carbon research,
including global model development, benchmark analysis, data assimilation,
database development, and observations for constraining or testing
simulations. It is aimed at presentations of approaches that have the
potential to be incorporated into global land models or bring new
perspectives to reduce the uncertainty in soil carbon prediction and
ultimately improve future IPCC assessments.
