IPM Institute Co-Director Posted 2/18/14
New co-director position available with an
independent non-profit organization working to
improve sustainability in agriculture and
communities through Integrated Pest Management
(IPM) and other best practices and performance
metrics. Primary responsibility will be
contributing leadership for and oversight of the
organization overall with a focus on leading
development of our community IPM initiatives
including actively engaging with current and
potential clients and funders. The ideal
candidate will possess extensive experience in
IPM with a solid understanding of issues related
to community IPM including public health/built environment and turf/landscape.
The co-director reports to the board president
and works in partnership with the board and
president to lead the organization. The
co-director must have a strong commitment and
understanding of the communities that IPM Institute serves. Primary duties:
1. Community IPM Program Development and Administration
a. Lead development, operation and outreach for
our community IPM programs for commercial
facilities, schools, health care, residential,
and turf and landscape, including Green Shield
Certified and IPM STAR certification programs.
b. Develop and maintain sustainable fundraising
strategies. Identify potential programs and funding opportunities.
c. Participate in strategic planning to ensure
that the organization achieves its mission, and
makes consistent and timely progress toward its goals.
d. Contribute leadership in developing program,
organizational and financial plans with the Board
of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and
policies authorized by the board.
e. Maintain a working knowledge of significant
developments and trends in IPM and sustainability
with emphasis on community environments.
f. Establish sound working relationships and
cooperative arrangements with groups and
organizations that share our mission; identify
new opportunities for collaboration.
g. Represent the programs and point of view of
the organization to agencies, organizations and the general public.
2. Human Resource Development
a. Jointly, with other management staff, oversee
recruitment, employment and release of personnel.
b. Ensure that position descriptions are
developed, that regular performance evaluations
are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
c. See that an effective management team is in
place, with appropriate provision for succession.
d. Encourage staff development and education, and
assist program staff in relating their specialized work to our mission.
e. Maintain a climate which attracts, motivates
and retains a diverse staff of top performers.
3. Strategic Planning
a. Work with the office manager, staff and the
board in preparing annual budgets; see that the
organization operates within budget guidelines.
b. Jointly, with the president and the board of
directors, conduct official correspondence, and
jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.
c. Ensure the organization's consistent
achievement of its mission and financial objectives.
4. Board Development
a. Keep board fully informed on the condition of
the organization and all important factors influencing it.
1. Lead development of agendas for board conference calls.
2. Prepare program updates, including progress
towards deliverables and outcomes.
3. Ensure board compliance with IPM Institute bylaws.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Master's Degree
in biological sciences or related field with
management-level experience or above. (Will
consider life experience in lieu of formal education.)
Ten years of management experience.
Experience and knowledge of current trends in
IPM and sustainability. Excellent
communication, interpersonal, networking,
advocacy and decision-making skills. Highly
motivated and self-directed. Ability to
envision and create constructive change and work
creatively to enhance our mission. SALARY AND
BENEFITS Salary range is $45,000 - $60,000
commensurate with experience and includes a
