CALL FOR SPECIAL SESSION PROPOSALS
The program for the International Society for River Science (ISRS) 4th Biennial 
Symposium will consist of Special Sessions (oral platform presentations 
organized by individuals), Contributed Oral Presentations (grouped into 
sessions by topic), and Contributed Poster Presentations (grouped into sessions 
by topic).
SPECIAL SESSION PROPOSALS
Conferees are encouraged to propose Special Sessions focusing on the 
interdisciplinary aspects of riverine connectivity including intersections 
between the physical, natural, and socio-economic sciences. Proposals that 
foster international participation are highly encouraged. Possible Special 
Session topics may include but are not limited to the following:
Connectivity as a driver of physical and biological processes
Rivers and human conflict
Nutrient delivery and transformation
Effect of agriculture on conveyance
Restoration of large river ecosystems
Contaminant dynamics in riverine ecosystems
Environmental monitoring of large river ecosystems
Policy and management

Hydrologic connectivity and climate change
Social, economic, and environmental goals for watersheds
Commercial navigation of multi-resource river systems
Urbanization/landscape transformation in river basins
Ecosystem services in rivers
Conservation biology in river ecosystems
Invasive species
Education, public outreach, and engagement

Each oral platform Special Session will be comprised of 8 presentations (time 
slots). Time slots for oral presentations are limited to 20 minutes (including 
5 minutes for questions and discussion), but multiple time slots (i.e., 40 or 
60 minutes) may be offered to Special Session speakers at the discretion of the 
Special Session organizers. Session organizers are responsible for recruiting a 
minimum of 4 presentations. The Program Committee will work with Special 
Session organizers to complete the session with appropriate oral presentations 
that were submitted as contributed papers. Special Session proposals must be 
submitted by November 1, 2014.
Special Session proposals will include the following:

*  Title of Special Session

*  Synopsis (maximum 60 words) that describes the content theme of the Special 
Session to be used in posting session information to the Symposium website.

*  Description (maximum 400 words) that provides background information, 
objectives, and significance of the proposed Special Session.

*  Names(s) and contact information of Special Session Organizers (maximum 2)

*  Name(s) and contact information of Special Session Chair(s) (if different 
from Organizer(s))

*  Names, contact information, and preliminary titles of a minimum of 4 Special 
Session presentations
Special Session proposal submissions must be made using the ISRS Symposium 
online Special Session form available 
online<https://uwlacrosse.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0oorGmYb1Orxljv>. Prior to 
accessing the form, it is advisable to have available all required information 
needed to complete the Special Session proposal.
The Program Committee will review the proposals and notify organizers of 
acceptance or refusal by November 15, 2014. Authors of presentations that are 
part of Special Sessions must themselves submit their abstract by January 7, 
2015.
Special Session organizers and presenters as well as authors of contributed 
oral or poster presentations must register for the ISRS 4th Biennial Symposium 
and are responsible for costs associated with attending the conference.
