The Chair of Geobotany at the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Senior Scientist (f/m) appointment for a period of three years, with the option for another 3-years prolongation. The candidate will develop his/her own research profile that should complement the Chair ́s scientific work, focusing on functional plant ecology, biodiversity – ecosystem functioning relationships, global change ecology, or soundscape ecology. The appointment includes the scientific and administrative management of the Chair ́s laboratories and its equipment (CN analyser, AAS, microplate reader, etc.), as well as the position as safety delegate of the Chair. In addition, teaching at the BSc. and MSc.- level in Biology (Faculty of Biology) or Environmental Sciences (Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources) is requested, and participation in general administrative issues of the Chair is also expected.
The position is paid according to salary level A13 (“Akademischer Rat/Rätin”) or E13 (“akademische/r Mitarbeiter/in”), starting date is 01.10.2014 or later. Candidate profile: We are looking for a highly motivated and cooperative person with a PhD in Biology/Ecology, Forestry or Environmental Sciences, and relevant Postdoc experience. He/she will have demonstrated his/her ability for raising funds, develop research questions, carry out the relevant empirical work and statistical analyses, and publish the results. Excellent statistical background and experience with appropriate software (R) is expected. The candidate should be willing to stay prolonged periods in the field. Fluency in English is indispensable. Chair profile: We focus our scientific work on functional biodiversity research and global change ecology (www.geobotanik.uni-freiburg.de). We are involved in several international initiatives that quantify the implications of biodiversity change for ecosystem functions and services. A special focus is on mechanisms underlying biodiversity effects on ecosystem processes and biogeochemistry. More recently, we have initiated new research focus in soundscape ecology.
