Graduate Study in Urban Forest Ecology

We are looking for capable students to join our Urban Forest research team
at the Masters or PhD level. Students will work on one of two projects: 1)
Microclimate of street trees and its positive and negative effects on urban
hardscape. The student will use a variety of methods to document
microclimate and impacts in urban infrastructure. Derived models will be
tested by comparison across climate gradients in the Eastern states. 2)
Population dynamics of the urban forest. Remote sensing and growing
truthing will be used to characterize change in urban tree communities
through time, comparing demography across gradients of urban development and
land ownership. In addition to research commitments, students will take
courses and serve as teaching assistants in the Department of Environmental
and Plant Biology. Both positions are fully funded including tuition waivers.

Applicants should have a GPA of at least 3.2 and GREs above the 50th
percentile. A strong work ethic, quantitative skills, and the ability work
independently are essential. Applicants should be physically fit and
capable of field work under less-than-ideal conditions. Previous field
experience is desirable.
