Two years ago at the Mid-Atlantic ESA meeting in Blacksburg, several of us
discussed putting together a workshop or symposium on the research, teaching,
and outreach value of campus natural areas, and successful strategies for
preserving campus natural areas, at a national meeting. Would anyone on the
list be interested in working on such a program for the 100th anniversary
meeting in Baltimore? We have a short time available before deadlines, so
please respond to me this week (off list; my direct email is [email protected]) if
you are interested. I’d also like to start gathering information, so if you
have been involved in efforts to preserve natural areas used for research and
teaching on a college campus, (or are aware of any) could you please let me
know just so we can start a tally of these natural areas? And please forward
this message to colleagues who may be interested.

If anyone is interested in the current situation regarding the old-growth white
oak stand on Virginia Tech’s campus, check out http://www.savestadiumwoods.com/

Thanks in advance for your assistance!
