Postdoctoral Fellow position‹Agricultural systems modeling
Colorado State University
Soil and Crop Sciences

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join a collaborative effort to
improve the capacity of agricultural systems models to estimate the
effects of different climate change scenarios on agriculture and natural
resources. This research project is a collaboration between the lab group
of Dr. Meagan Schipanski at Colorado State University and the USDA-ARS
Agricultural Systems Research Unit. The research is also part of the
Agricultural Model Inter-comparison Project (AgMIP). The postdoc will
compare the scientific approaches used within existing models to simulate
soil carbon, soil water, plant growth, and wind erosion dynamics using
data from long-term cropping systems studies across the Great Plains. The
longer-term goal of this project is to increase the capacity of
agricultural systems models to evaluate the effects of climate change on
agriculture and natural resources and to identify adaptation strategies.

The successful candidate will be a systems thinker with an understanding
of key biogeochemical and physiological processes underpinning
agricultural systems models. This position will offer ample opportunities
for collaboration and professional networking.

Required qualifications: A Ph.D. completed within the past four years in a
relevant field such as agronomy, soil science, or ecology. Experience with
system models. Evidence of strong analytical, written, and oral
communication skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S.
employment eligibility by the start date of the position.

Desired qualifications: Knowledge of soil carbon, nitrogen, water, and/or
wind erosion dynamics, and a record of publications in peer-reviewed
journals. Programming knowledge and proficiency in FORTRAN, C/C++ or R is
a plus. Reflecting departmental and institutional values, candidates are
expected to have the ability to advance the Department's commitment to
diversity and inclusion.

This is a 2-year position with a preferred start date in January 2015.
Salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits. Read more here:
