Opportunities for graduate study in Plant Physiology with a Nanobiotechnology approach with Juan Pablo Giraldo. Assistant Professor of Plant Physiology (Starting July, 2015) in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at the University of California, Riverside.
http://plantbiology.ucr.edu/people/faculty/giraldo-1.html I am looking for creative and highly motivated PhD students to join the lab in the Fall of 2015. Ideal applicants should have a background in plant biology, chemistry and/or chemical engineering. Interested candidates should apply for admission through the UCR graduate Division by January 5th, 2015. http://plantbiology.ucr.edu/graduate_programs/how_to_apply.html Our lab will start working in the Fall of 2015 towards building the foundations for the emergent field at the interface of plant biology and nanotechnology known as Plant Nanobiotechnology. I encourage applications of students interested in using nanomaterials to develop research tools to monitor and manipulate plant function. We also seek to enable plants with novel or augmented functions using nanomaterials at scales ranging from plant organelles to whole organisms. Research projects in the lab will initially focus on: (1) understanding the mechanisms of enhancement of plant photosynthesis with nanomaterials; (2) developing selective, sensitive, and biocompatible nanosensors for imaging plant compounds in real-time; (3) achieving targeted delivery and controlled release of biomolecules by nanoparticles in plants. Students will be supported from a combination of research and teaching assistantships, but also encourage to apply for University and outside fellowships.
