A cover letter, attached as the first page of your resume, describing how your experience meets the job requirements of this posting, is required for consideration of this position. *Position Summary:* Full-time, three-year laboratory technician position focused on agroecology and soil nutrient cycling research is immediately available in an interdisciplinary Sustainable Food Systems laboratory at the University of Michigan. The Research Technician will assist scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants in performing laboratory and field procedures. Specific position activities include setting up field experiments on diversified vegetable and grain farms, plant and soil sampling, assisting with preparation of research protocols, and analysis of soils and plants including inorganic nitrogen, particulate organic matter fractionation, total organic carbon and nitrogen, and preparing samples for isotope analysis. The technician will be responsible for organizing and managing field work, operating laboratory equipment, preparing solutions, ordering supplies, recording and compiling data, conducting library research and literature searches, and performing other duties as assigned. Funding is available for three years, with possibility for position renewal. Successful candidates will have demonstrated organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail, and are expected to work both independently and collaboratively. A Master’s degree in soil and crop sciences, agronomy, ecology or related areas is desired, and a Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of work experience in a laboratory setting is required.
